The EquaGel General is a seat cushion made entirely from patented EquaGel, a gel formed into a grid of flexible columns. Under load those columns buckle rather than push back, so pressure is spread broadly across the seated area and the person settles into the cushion instead of perching on top of it. The 5.08 cm (2 inch) gel section is built in two stages, a thin walled upper grid that handles comfort and a thicker walled lower grid that provides deeper postural support. The pelvic area is contoured to distribute weight more evenly while retaining about 3.17 cm (1.25 inch) of buckling gel beneath the pressure points, and a 1.9 cm (0.75 inch) trochanter contour adds sideways stability. Nine sizes are offered, from 41 to 56 cm wide and 41 to 51 cm deep, each with a fluid resistant, vapour permeable and flame resistant cover.

Column buckling is what gives this cushion its practical value, because the gel yields most where the body presses hardest and evens out pressure across the contact area. There is nothing to inflate, check or adjust, which suits a person who cannot manage a pump or valve, and the range of nine width and depth combinations means the cushion can be matched to the chair rather than the other way round.
