The Stander Couch Cane is a standing support handle that fits to an existing couch, chair or recliner rather than replacing it. Dual-size rubber base pads slide underneath the furniture feet and the base is adjusted to match the distance between the front and rear legs, which holds the handle upright without brackets or fixings. The handle can then be gripped with one hand or both to steady the body when lowering into the seat or rising from it, giving support at the point where most difficulty occurs and helping to avoid a fall. Handle height adjusts between 86.4 cm and 101.6 cm, and the unit can be set up on either side of the seat. A four-pocket saddle bag hangs from the handle to hold a remote control, a phone or reading glasses.

Getting out of a soft, low chair is a common difficulty, and a fixed handhold at the right height addresses it without the cost or the appearance of replacing the furniture.
